Yes, It's Still Closed
If your usual route has been broken since Labor Day: the intersection of 8th Avenue and 10th Street closed September 1 for construction of new water and sewer infrastructure, and the city expects the closure to run several weeks. Plan around it a while longer, and give the crews room — this is the unglamorous underground half of fixing up downtown.
The Bigger Picture
The dig is part of the Downtown Infrastructure Improvements Project, which kicked off officially in early August as a first milestone of the city's Downtown Revitalization Program — the long-game effort tying together the new Civic Campus, the corridors, Lincoln Park, new plazas, and better connections to the Poudre.
The Civic Campus piece is already reshaping blocks: the city and county agreed to a land swap earlier this year, the "Trophy Block" — home of the school district's old administration building — was slated for demolition by September 1 to become temporary parking and eventually a parking garage with 234 spaces dedicated to Weld County government, and the county plans a new administration building on the Centennial Block near the courthouse. Downtown is going to look like a construction zone for a while. The trade is a center of the city that actually works. We'll keep documenting both halves of that bargain.
