What's Closed Right Now

8th Avenue and 10th Street intersection: closed through late October.
10th Street between 7th and 8th avenues: closed through mid-October.
9th Avenue between 11th and 12th streets, by St. Peter's Catholic Church: closed since around Sept. 21, for several months.

The 9th Avenue block is a longer job for a specific reason. Crews are installing a new underground stormwater system, and the structures are too big to drop in as precast pieces in such a tight work area. They're being built in place, which the city says makes them more durable.

Bus riders: Greeley-Evans Transit Route 4 and Stop 287 were detoured onto 6th Avenue and 8th Street. Check Greeley Transit for current routing before you head out.

Why It's Happening

This is all part of the city's Downtown Infrastructure Improvements Project, which is replacing aging water, sewer and stormwater lines under downtown. Work began this summer and is happening in phases, so expect more closures to open and close in sequence. The city posts updates at SpeakUpGreeley.com.

The Bigger Picture: The Civic Campus

The pipes are only part of what's changing. Under a land swap with Weld County that the council approved this spring, the county is deeding the "Juror Block" to the city. That block is planned to hold the new City Hall, a District 6 building and a hotel, with a new parking garage that will reserve 234 spaces for county use. How the Civic Campus gets paid for is on the November ballot. Read our explainer on the 0.6% sales-tax measure.
