Progress Report

The city says crews on the Downtown Infrastructure Improvements Project have installed about 1,700 feet of new sewer pipe, close to half of what's planned. That's roughly five football fields. They've also laid nearly 1,900 feet of water line, but that's only about 22% of the planned water work. In other words, the sewer job is past the hump, but there's a lot of digging left.

What Changed Starting Oct. 19

8th Avenue and 11th Street: partially closed. Northbound drivers on 8th can turn right onto 11th but can't go straight through.
9th Avenue between 11th and 12th streets: still closed, now including the 9th Avenue and 12th Street intersection.
Westbound 10th Street between 8th and 11th avenues: closed, including the intersections at 8th and 10th and at 10th and 10th.
9th Avenue and 10th Street: temporarily reopened to keep downtown businesses reachable. It will close again as work moves along.

The Shops Are Open

Restaurant Week, Fork Around & Find Out, runs through Sunday, Nov. 1, with $15 and $25 specials, and every business behind those cones is open. Construction season is exactly when a downtown lunch or a gift-card purchase counts most.

Justice Center: Work Continues

A separate project, the new Weld County justice center downtown, also cleared a hurdle. On Oct. 20, a Weld District judge denied a request for a preliminary injunction that would have stopped work on the center while a lawsuit against the Board of Weld County Commissioners plays out. The case itself isn't over. We'll follow it, because the justice center is part of the same downtown land swap that makes room for the city's new Civic Campus.
