Opening Oktobrewfest Saturday
On a sunny Saturday morning in Lincoln Park, the Greeley Children's Chorale kicked off the second day of Oktobrewfest, including a performance of "The Star-Spangled Banner." The ensemble, accompanied on piano and led by two longtime directors, brought parents and families through the gates as the festival got underway.
Meet the Directors
The Greeley Children's Chorale is an auditioned youth vocal ensemble for kids in grades 2 through 8. It is led by directors Kris Pierce and Sue Davis, with accompanist Christen Adler on piano.
Months in the Making
A festival set doesn't come together the week before. According to Pierce, preparation starts with the Chorale's summer camp in August, where the kids learn the music. Many of those songs then come back at different concerts throughout the year.
The Set List
Saturday's set included "Dynamite," "God Bless America," and the Chorale's signature song, "River in Judea," which Pierce says they perform every time.
Coming Up: Winter's Eve Songfest
The Chorale's next big performance is its Winter's Eve Songfest in December, with dates, times and locations posted on the Chorale's concert calendar. Tickets are $15 for adults and $5 for kids, available at the door or through the Chorale's online store. The full season is on the Concerts page.
How to Get Your Kids Involved
"We would love to have them involved," Pierce said. Families can visit greeleychildrenschorale.com/join and email the administrator. A younger group is open for enrollment year-round, and auditions for the main choirs are held in late April and early May.
The children of our community are their parents' world and this city's future voices. The Greeley Children's Chorale lifts those voices in song and gives these kids an experience they will carry with them, whether they grow into artists or keep it as a favorite memory of their youth.
