The Purse That Helps the Whole County

When a car repair, a utility shutoff notice, or a surprise medical bill lands on a household already stretched thin, there's a Greeley nonprofit built for exactly that moment. Weld Women2Women (W2W) provides one-time financial assistance — up to $750 — to women in Weld County facing a financial crisis, usually within about 48 hours of a request.

And their biggest fundraising push of the year is about to begin: the annual "100 Women × $100 × 100 Days" campaign kicks off October 1 and runs through the end of December.

How It Started

The campaign name isn't just a slogan — it's the origin story. In 2009, founder Kay Broderius and nine other Weld County women noticed a gap: local organizations served women's financial needs, but none could respond immediately. So the ten founding board members each asked ten friends for $100 in 100 days. It took just 31 days to raise $11,000, and Women2Women was off and running.

How It Works

W2W doesn't take applications directly. Women are referred through the group's network of nearly 100 partner agencies — 501(c)(3) nonprofits, churches, schools, and the Weld County judicial system — which try to help first. When no other source can cover an immediate, one-time need (think rent and security deposits, utilities, childcare, transportation, medical costs, even eyeglasses), W2W steps in and pays the local business directly.

The only thing asked in return? That each recipient perform an act of kindness for someone else.

The Numbers

The model works. W2W crossed the $1 million mark in 2021, and as of July 31, 2026, the organization has assisted 3,078 women by investing nearly $1.7 million in Weld County businesses on their behalf. In a county where roughly 16% of residents live below the poverty line, that's a lot of crises turned into better months.

Between the fall campaign and the spring Circle of Sisters luncheon (the 14th annual was held this past May), W2W keeps a full calendar — including "Shop and Support" nights where local businesses donate a slice of the day's sales.
