Most comment sections are a free-for-all. Anonymous accounts, bots, and people who have never set foot in Weld County can drown out the neighbors who actually have a stake in the conversation. We think a local publication deserves better.
Verified Neighbors is our answer: a simple, one-time check that proves a commenter really lives in a Greeley-area ZIP code. Verified folks get a badge next to their name, and on any story you can flip a toggle to see only verified voices. No bots. No brigades. Just Greeley talking to Greeley.
It works the same way Google verifies a business address: we mail you something.
1. Sign in and request verification with your street address and a small one-time fee that covers printing and postage.
2. Within about a week, a postcard from Greeality lands in your mailbox with a code and a QR on it.
3. Scan the QR or type the code into your account. That’s it — you’re verified, permanently.
A postcard can’t be faked by a bot farm and can’t be received from out of state. It is low-tech on purpose.
We only use your street address once: to mail the postcard. After it’s sent, we keep just your ZIP code and your verified status. Your address is never shown on the site, never attached to your comments, and never sold or shared. Your badge says you’re a neighbor — not where you live.
Elected officials and city staff who join the conversation are verified by our team directly — through official channels, not postcards — and carry a distinct Public Official badge, so you always know when the person replying speaks for the city.
