Leave the Car at Home: Buses Are Free Through Oct. 8
Gallop, the city's bus system (you may still know it as Greeley-Evans Transit, or GET), is running fare-free from October 1 through October 8 for National Week Without Driving. The week is about the people who get around Greeley without a car, whether they walk, roll, or ride, and the city's pitch is simple: if you've never tried the bus, this is a free week to find out whether it works for your commute, your errands, or your night out downtown. Details are on the City of Greeley news page.

Greeley's Museums Are Facing a Nearly 25% Cut
The city is working through an $18 million budget deficit, and every department is taking a hit. One of the cuts on the table, as KUNC reported this week, is a reduction of nearly a quarter of the museums' budget, roughly $400,000. That covers the Greeley History Museum downtown and Centennial Village, the living-history museum where fourth graders from across the area spend a day at History Fest.
City budget staff told KUNC the museums serve far fewer people than places like the Family FunPlex, and that council prioritized police and fire. After hearing from residents and a letter of support from History Colorado, the city added $60,000 back into the recommended museum budget. Supporters say it isn't enough: some staff have already been let go, the museum has paused taking in new objects, and the plan leans on volunteers to keep things like History Fest running.
What's next: the next budget hearing is in October, and the budget is expected to be finalized in November. If you have an opinion, that's the window to bring it to City Council.
